FOCUS ON: Augers
Augers of various widths and digging depths allow you to perform applications such as digging holes for posts, fencing, footings, trees and shrubs, and irrigation valve boxes. They are manufactured as a unit in itself or an attachment that can be implemented just for augering applications on an existing loader. If you need more information, use the circle numbers provided at the end of each product description.
ATTACHMENT TECHNOLOGIES, INC.
The McMillen 3K2 Double Mc, 2-speed auger drive from Attachment Technologies, Inc. has two speeds, which allows the operator to choose high torque for difficult ground or large-diameter bits, or high speed for light/moderate ground or small-diameter bits. The 3K2 auger flow ranges from 10 to 25 gpm at a maximum of 3,000 psi. The unit can easily be fitted up to any existing utility/construction equipment that has adequate hydraulics to operate the unit.

Caterpillar Augers are used for drilling holes for footings, fencing, signs, trees and shrubs in construction, agricultural and landscaping applications. Caterpillar offers three augers for its line of skid steer loaders and multi terrain loaders, matched specifically to the machines' auxiliary hydraulic circuit and horsepower for maximum system performance and reliability. The direct drive A14B Auger, and the planetary-driven A19B are designed to work with standard flow machine auxiliary hydraulics. The planetary-driven A26B is specifically designed for machines with high flow auxiliary hydraulics. The A14B provides performance in light to moderate-duty applications with auger bits up to 30 inches in diameter, while the A19B provides performance in moderate to heavy-duty applications with auger bits up to 36 inches in diameter due to higher torque output available to the drive shaft and auger bit. The A26B provides performance in moderate to heavy-duty applications with auger bits up to 36 inches in diameter due to its lower speed and high torque capabilities.

Danuser introduces the strong and long-lasting Drive Unit Earth Augers. Made with proven hydraulic motors and planetary gearboxes, they are backed by a five-year limited warranty. The auger models range from 10 to 35 gpm at 1,500 to 3,000 psi. The torque ranges from 1,483 to 3,583 feet per pound. Danuser Augers range in diameter from 4 to 36 inches. The lengths run from 29 to 72 inches and can be extended with Danuser Auger Extensions. The augers come with three choices of cutting edges: plain, serrated or Hole Digger Head (HDH) designs. Plain cutting edges are a sharp edge design best used for normal digging conditions. Serrated cutting edges are best used for underground roots and breaking through compacted soils. The HDH design is the most aggressive of the three cutting edges. HDH augers provide digging through clay, caliche, shale, mixed limestone and light rock.

The XT850 compact utility vehicle from Ditch Witch is a cross between the company's SK (mini skid steer) and MX (mini excavator) series. The XT850 is a powerful, lightweight excavator/tool-carrier with options that include trailer, stands and enough attachments to handle virtually any underground constructions task, including an auger attachment. The planetary auger attachment is used for digging vertical holes in most soil conditions. This attachment provides high-speed, low-torque drilling. Augers are available in diameters ranging from 6 to 30 inches.

Forestry Suppliers' AMS Signature Series Soil Sampling Equipment thread design allows connection and disassembly with only 1-½ turns significantly faster than with thinner thread designs. Because the threads are thicker and more durable, they can withstand tough use in the field. The rounded ball design is easy to use, and the modifications to the cylinder allow it to hold almost 10 percent more soil than standard AMS augers. The auger bits have been modified to speed the augering process even more. Each auger has high carbon steel bits with tungsten carbide hard surface edges, a stainless steel cylinder and a carbon steel bail.
