Focus On: Sprinkler Heads
Factors such as site size and condition play a role in the irrigation system you need to efficiently water your turf and ornamentals. Determine the right sprinkler head, spray head, impact sprinkler head or rotor for the job based on the site and its watering needs. Check out the following product options available in the sprinkler head marketplace. If you need more information about any of these sprinkler heads, visit the company web sites listed below.
The Rotor Spray from Antelco is a low-volume sprinkler product line, with flow rates available from 9.4 to 39 gph. The sprinklers have a 360-degree spray pattern with a 17- to 27-foot spray diameter depending on the model. The Rotor Spray is designed for distribution uniformity, and the Vari-Rotor Spray can be adjusted to reduce volume of flow and radius of throw. The Rotor Spray has a “C” frame design for strength and distribution uniformity, and features a full flow flipper suspended between two bearings.
The new telescopic pop-up from Hit Products makes both new and retrofit installations easier. The new 7-inch telescopic pop-up uses a 4-inch pop-up body. The 13-inch telescopic pop-up uses a 6-inch body. On new installations this means less depth, less digging, less labor and greater ground clearance for the nozzle. Convert pop-ups from 6 to 13 inches or 4 to 7 inches by unscrewing the cap, taking out the old internals, sliding in the new telescopic internals and screwing on the new cap. The pop-ups have dedicated wiper seals and independent retraction springs for each stage.
Hunter Industries' Pro-Spray's heavy-duty ABS construction includes a cap that won't crack or leak under pressure, plus body ribs for easier installation, adjustment and service. Pressure-activated, multi-function, no flow-by wiper seal is easy to remove and clean and is treated with UV inhibitors to ensure a long life. An innovative “pull ring” flush plug is designed to make flushing easy.
Rain Bird's 1800 Series Spray Heads are designed to ensure even water distribution with no brown spots. The spray heads are designed to fit 79 different Rain Bird nozzles, including the U-Series Dual Orifice Nozzle. They are available in 2-, 3-, 4-, 6- and 12-inch pop-up heights to ensure that landscape areas are watered easily. Additional features include a built-in pressure regulator option that eliminates wasteful misting and a pressure-activated wiper seal that provides optimum pop-up and pop-down reliability while reducing water waste.
Toro's TR Series rotors are designed to give irrigation contractors and designers flexibility and watering precision for various landscape applications. The rotors enable the user to fine-tune spray trajectory, have ease of adjustment and shut off water flow for maintenance convenience. The TR Series features a variety of rotors that cover 25- to 77-foot areas. The TR rotors feature greater debris resistance, a choice of interchangeable nozzles and the ability to be installed below grade for added safety.
