FOCUS ON: Trailers

Almost every grounds care professional owns a landscape trailer to remove debris or move equipment from place to place and job to job. It would be difficult to carry on business without one, but there are many options and features to choose from that could help your business in different ways. If you're looking at adding a trailer to your fleet or replacing an existing one, you should consider capacity, bed size, brakes and ease of hook-up. The new Lift-a-Load Inclining Platform Trailer from Advance Metalworking Co. is designed to offer fast, efficient loading and unloading of cargo. The trailer features a 68-inch × 11-foot, 4-inch carrying platform that can be hydraulically lowered to ground height. The built-in ramp then allows drive-on access for loading or unloading cargo. When lowered, the trailer allows a minimum angle ideal for low ground clearance or reduced gradeability vehicles.

Classen offers the Model SAT Trailer for ease in transporting and loading equipment. The bed of the trailer with inside dimensions of 33 inches wide and 60 inches long is designed to lower flush to the ground surface so that any unit can be simply rolled onto the trailer. One pin holds the unit securely to the trailer, which eliminates tie downs. The trailer comes standard with lights, safety chains and a 2-inch ball coupler.

The LPHD series of dump trailers from Bri-Mar Manufacturing is designed to haul skid steers and compact equipment as well as to haul jobsite debris. There are four models to choose from ranging in 12- to 16-inch lengths with GVWR ratings from 10,000 pounds to 14,000 pounds. Standard features include 72-inch-wide rubber mounted lights, a lockable battery box, a remote with 20-foot cord and an adjustable hitch. The unit also comes with optional equipment of 4-inch drop axles, a mesh tarp roller and 24-inch expanded metal sides.

The Demco Model DT6000 aluminum tilt-bed trailer from Dethmers Manufacturing Co. has an overall length of 20 feet and a bed length of 14 feet. Its maximum loading incline is 15 ¼ degrees. Features include surge brakes for all four wheels with self-adjusting uni servo brake shoes, an industrial duty surge brake actuator, winches and tie down-chains, rubber torsion axle suspension and double-action screw jack to tilt bed of the trailer.

JLG Industries' Triple-L Trailers incorporate a power deck hydraulic system that lowers the trailer deck to ground level for loading and then raises it for hauling. The entire deck can be lowered or raised hydraulically in less than 15 seconds, so there is no need for ramps, ascending grades or using additional personnel. More than 20 different models are available with capabilities ranging from 2,000 to 10,000 pounds.

Kent Manufacturing Inc. introduces the LIN2 electric dump aluminum trailer. Standard bed size is 45 inches × 36 inches × 10 inches with a 350-pound capacity. Smaller, UPS-able versions or larger custom models are also available. The electric dump motor can work with either gas or electric vehicles.

The Model 900 series Traveling Tall hydraulic trailer from Landoll Corp. is available in either 35- or 50-ton capacity and features a simplified, one-hydraulic control for three hydraulic operations. Available in either tandem or triple axle, the 900 series is available with 12-foot, 14-foot or 15-foot tail lengths. A load angle as low as 11 degrees is possible with the 15-foot tail. The frame design of the 900 series is a four-beam positive cambered, with the undercarriage supporting the tail section for more payload capacity. A 12-inch crossmember spacing standard, 25,000-pound axles and a standard apitong wood-covered tail with a lifting capacity of 24,000 pounds are all recent enhancements.

The Tiltster trailer from Tiger Line Equipment is designed to easily transport various types of equipment from job site to job site. The low bed trailer tilts to ground level for loading and unloading equipment. The trailer is available in capacities ranging from 3,000 pounds to 7,000 pounds.
