FOCUS ON: Trenchers
When you are in the trenches with your equipment, you want a reliable machine that will stand up to all digging conditions. Whether you are working on installing underground wires, lawn sprinklers or service lines, the first step of the process is to dig a trench to fit each of these purposes. The following trenchers offer various digging depths and widths as well as chain speed. If you need more information, use the circle numbers provided at the end of each product description.
Attachment Technologies introduces the Bradco 640 trencher, which has two standard flow options to fit most standard flow skid steers. The 3,300-psi motors (two standard flow and two high flow) can be easily changed on a stock 640 to meet the full range of any skid-steer line, which means less inventory required. The trencher has 30-, 36-, 42- and 48-inch digging depths to fit most applications. The trencher also includes 6- and 12-inch chain widths to match your job requirements. The unit also has a 5-year warranty on the high-torque planetary drive.

Developed for cutting narrow straight trenches in a variety of soil types, Caterpillar Trenchers are designed for installing irrigation lines in landscape applications. The trenchers operate with the skid-steer loader traveling in reverse with the boom angled down between 45 and 65 degrees from the horizontal position. Engineered to provide the right balance of chain speed, torque and chain pull for maximum productivity in a broad range of soil types, two models of Cat trenchers are available. Both feature a direct drive system with a variable-speed, bi-directional, gerotor-style hydraulic motor. The model T9 Trencher operates to a maximum depth of 48 inches and width of 10 inches, while the model T15 uses high-flow machine auxiliary hydraulics to operate to a depth of 60 inches and width of 12 inches.

The Worksite Pro Trencher, from John Deere, is available in 36-, 48- and 60-inch models. The heavy-duty direct drive system eliminates chain reduction while the manual side shift allows for trenching close to structures. The built-in skid shoe provides proper auger depth control and a spring-loaded boom reduces shock loads on the hydraulic motor and skid-steer. The trencher also comes with indicators for proper digging control as well as heavy-duty crumber to assist with loose soil removal.
