Lebanon Valley College has developed strategies to set itself apart from its competitors. One such goal was to create unique athletic facilities, allowing its athletes to play on professional-quality fields.
The design team was confronted with a difficult site to meet this goal. The 5.25-acre site has more than 20 feet of vertical drop and is separated from the rest of the campus by a highway.
The challenge of pedestrian access to the stadiums was met by deigning a brightly colored cable stay bridge. This not only allows everyone to cross safely to the complex, but also creates a new, identifiable element on the campus edge.
The baseball stadium was designed to use outfield walls to take up the grade. This, along with an elevated bullpen, sunken dugouts and seating for 500 spectators, are among the features that make this stadium unique.
The grading challenge for the soccer stadium was met by incorporating terraced seating and using a modular wall system to match the baseball stadium.
