It may not be ideal for a quick-getaway, but police say a burglar used a red riding lawn mower as a getaway vehicle after breaking into a Fairfield, Ill., home on Oct. 7 and taking more than $1,000 in jewelry.

Witnesses reported to police that they saw the suspect driving the mower away from the home early that evening.

The Associated Press reports that Fairfield police Sgt. Steven Sons says police believe the intruder rode the mower to the crime scene as well. Sons told Court TV that the suspect allegedly rode the mower to the home, made a large loop in the backyard and then parked his transport underneath the victim's bedroom window, where he broke into the house with a hammer.

Fairfield, a rural town in southeastern Illinois, is about 30 miles west of the Indiana state line.

Encore Power Equipment recently inducted three new members into the Prowler Sales Award Club — and promptly rewarded each new member with an all-expenses paid vacation in appreciation of their sales success. Rob Van Cleave, an associate for Midwest Turf & Irrigation in Omaha, Neb., was the national sales leader of Encore Prowler Mid Cut mowers throughout the past fiscal year. For his exceptional sales efforts, Encore presented Van Cleave with an all-expenses paid vacation for two to Cancun, Mexico.

Todd McCulloch of Midwest Equipment in Evansville, Ind., and Andy Somich of Modern Power Equipment, Wickliffe, Ohio, both turned in the same number of Prowler Mid Cut sales — tying them for the second sales award position. Encore rewarded both McClulloch and Somich with all-expenses paid vacations for two to Las Vegas.

The Prowler Sales Award Club focuses on sales of Encore's Prowler Mid Cut commercial riders with 52-, 61- and 72-inch decks, which realized a 30-percent increase last season. “These mowers recently debuted a number of redesigned features”, said Encore National Sales Manager Doug Tegtmeier. “Our sales numbers were up 30 percent on this particular mower last season, and with all the interest generated by the new Prowler features, we're paced to far outdistance that number in the coming year.”
