TRUCK SALES INCREASE
The National Truck Equipment Association reports Class 1 and 2 truck sales increased in July 2002 compared to the same month for 2001. Class 1 experienced a 13 percent increase from 406,845 to 459,928, while Class 2 jumped from 185,755 to 219,956, an 18.4 percent shift. With July's numbers, Class 1 trucks had nearly surpassed the 2001 year-to-date figure of 2,978,297 with 2,942,418 sales. For Class 2, the year-to-date sales totaled 1,472,940 for 2002 compared to 1,391,557 in 2001, a 5.8 percent rise. Class 1 2002 sales had steadily increased each month since April. Class 2 2002 totals in July dropped from June sales.
