Echo Carving Series Championship to be Held at Ducks Unlimited Great Outdoors Festival
Echo Inc., a manufacturer of outdoor power equipment, is partnering with Ducks Unlimited (DU) to host the 2006 ECHO Chain Saw Carving Series Championship at DU’s Great Outdoors Festival in Oshkosh, Wis., on Aug. 25-27, 2006.
The ECHO Carving Series is a showcase competition between award-winning chain saw sculptors who compete in a series of qualifying events to win a seat at the finals. The series is built around public festivals whose primary focus is chain saw competition. This year’s qualifying events are:
- Intern. Great Lakes Chainsaw Sculptors Competition in Charlotte, Mich., on May 31-June 4, 2006;
- National Road Chainsaw Carving Festival in Addison, Pa., on June 15-17, 2006;
- The Oregon Divisional Championships in Reedsport, Ore., on June 15-18, 2006; and
- “The Big One” Chain Saw Competition in Aberdeen, Wash., on Aug. 3-6, 2006.
The top two, pro-division winners from the four qualifying events will travel in August to DU’s Great Outdoors Festival. Here the eight finalists will have 21 hours over three days to carve their interpretation of ‘The Sporting Life’. The huge sculptures will be judged on a 1-7 point scale in five criteria: theme; degree of difficulty; craftsmanship; design and artistic impact; and correctness of form/state of completion. Winners will be crowned on Sunday, Aug. 27, and awarded a combination of cash and prizes. Sculptures will be auctioned later in the year at Ducks Unlimited functions to raise money for wetlands conservation.
The ECHO Chain Saw Series and Championship are open to all pro-carvers. ECHO team members willingly compete for a seat in the Championship with other pro carvers from around the world. Last year over $13,000 in cash and prizes was awarded to the top finishers at the 2005 Championship, hosted at the Outdoor Power Equipment EXPO trade show in Louisville, Ky. Top prize was awarded to Dayton Scoggins of Heidelberg, Miss., who won the ECHO Carving Cup, cash and a Ducks Unlimited Yamaha Grizzly 660 4x4 ATV in Advantage Max4 Pattern.
