Geller Sport, Inc. Scores Landscape Design Award
Geller Sport, Inc. scored a Merit Award for Parks and Recreation Facilities from the Boston Society of Landscape Architects (BSLA) for the restoration of the multipurpose Lincoln Fields, a former capped landfill in Lexington, Mass.
Geller Sport was recently presented with the award at the BSLA Celebration Gala and Awards Dinner in Cambridge, Mass. BSLA, a chapter of the national organization of The American Society of Landscape Architects, honors landscape architects in Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and Maine at the annual event.
The restored Lincoln Fields complex includes a new and expanded parking lot to accommodate 232 cars, a tot lot and picnic area and a fitness and nature trail through adjacent meadows and wetlands. Geller Sport provided permitting and the design for the project, including the replacement of three multipurpose fields with new infilled synthetic turf. The switch to synthetic turf allows for increased usage without adversely affecting the playing conditions of the fields and requires less maintenance than natural grass.
The restoration was completed in the spring of 2004. Lincoln Fields is now open for public use and is enjoyed by all of the high school and recreation teams in Lexington, Mass.
