Certification Review Session Offered at Green Industry Conference

The Professional Landcare Network (PLANET) recently announced that a Certified Landscape Professional (CLP) exam review session will be offered on Nov. 1 at the Green Industry Conference (GIC), in Columbus, Ohio. The review session is open to registered attendees of GIC and is designed to assist interior and exterior landscape company owners and managers with preparations for taking the credentialing exam.

This review session at GIC has helped many green industry professionals successfully pass the PLANET Certification exam and become PLANET-Certified Landscape Professionals. Daryl Webb, CLP, of Lawrence Landscape, Inc., attended the review session prior to his certification in 2004. “The CLP Review Session was instrumental in helping me pass the CLP exam,” says Webb. “The session helped bring focus to the material and helped me become aware of areas that I was weak in.”

The PLANET Certification program is an international certification program that helps raise the standard of professionalism in the green industry. It also helps green industry professionals demonstrate their expertise in the core knowledge of green industry standards, recognizes those who have demonstrated a high level of competence in the profession and encourages continual improvement in performance through professional development programs.

This session will review the examination process, discuss business management topics, and inform attendees about the renewal process for the CLP designation. Session topics include the following: corporate financial management; risk, law and contracts; marketing and sales management; strategic planning; human resources; leadership and corporate citizenship; exterior production/operations and horticulture and interior production/operations and horticulture.

“Attending a review session is a commitment for a day, but the benefits that you receive from attending will follow you through your career as a professional in the green industry,” says Doug Longmeyer, CLP of the Kohler Co. “Participation in the review session helped boost my confidence with the material and gave me strategies and tactics that helped me understand how to prepare for the exam—without it, I would not have been able to give such a stellar performance on the exam.” Longmeyer earned his CLP designation in 2005.

With the expanding emphasis on professionalism in the green industry, being PLANET-Certified helps green industry professionals and their companies stand out as leaders in the green industry. Miles Kuperus, CLP, of Farmside Landscape & Design, attended a CLP Certification Review session at GIC and has personally and professionally benefited from his attendance. “Participating in the review session was a stepping stone towards helping myself and my company stand out in the green industry, “ Kuperus says. He adds, “Through professional development opportunities, I have been able to increase my skill base and have been able to help the company that I work for become a leader in the green industry.”
