Green Industry Conference Safety Workshops
The Professional Landcare Network (PLANET) announces the inclusion of safety workshops and an OSHA safety course at its Green Industry Conference (GIC), Nov. 1-4, 2006, in Columbus, Ohio. These sessions are designed to help green industry owners, managers, and employees achieve excellence in workplace safety as they learn which safety programs are available to them, gain exposure to safety techniques and strategies, implement techniques that help communicate green industry safety practices to their Hispanic workforces and increase their knowledge about Occupational Safety Health Administration (OSHA) requirements.
Miles Kuperus Jr., CLP, of Farmside Landscape & Design; Erin Maurer of Lied’s; and Shane Vosberg of Swingle Lawn, Tree, and Landscape Care will lead the panel discussion, “Cost-Effective Safety Programs.” These three speakers will reveal how their companies’ safety programs have resulted in fewer injuries and illnesses, reduced exposure to OSHA penalties and have earned them discounts in insurance rates. Attendees will learn how to help tailor their workplace needs by using safety techniques and strategies that have succeeded for other companies.
Additionally, participants in the “ Successful Spanish-English Safety Training” session will learn about the most innovative ideas, tools and methods for communicating safety practices to their Hispanic workforces. Leslie Herndon, CLT, of Greenscape, Inc.; Mari Medrano Mejia of CoCal Landscape; Maureen Scheitz of the Acres Group; and Sam Steel of the National Safety Council will introduce visual aids, hands-on techniques and other tools to successfully train Hispanic workforces on workplace safety.
Gary Clevenger, CSP, CRIS, STS, risk control specialist with CAN, will host the “OSHA 10-Hour Course.” This session will provide health and safety training for green industry associates at all levels who work on or around lawn maintenance or landscaping sites. It also will provide information on OSHA standards, inspections, training requirements and the citation process.
