Barenbrug USA Introduces Patented RTF
Barenbrug recently announced the introduction of RTF (rhizomatous tall fescue) to the professional turf market at the 2004 Golf Course Superintendents Association of America Conference & Show.
RTF represents a significant leap forward in turf grass breeding programs, so much so that the RTF technology qualified for and has now been recognized with a U.S. patent (U.S. Patent No. 6,677,507). This patent offers a broader protection than Plant Variety Protection under the U.S. PVP Act. The patent covers further development of new rhizomatous tall fescue varieties under the protection of the same utility patent.
To golf course superintendents and other professional turf managers, RTF represents an advanced generation of turf-type tall fescue that produces a thick rhizome-based root system that supports thick, even turf. RTF offers the ability to self-repair and fill-in damaged bare spots.
The rhizome nature of RTF is similar to Kentucky bluegrass. However, unlike Kentucky bluegrass RTF will thrive in the transition zone climate and all other tall fescue regions.
RTF is available in both seed and sod. Barenbrug has licensed the RTF Turf Producers Association as the only producer and marketer of RTF sod. RTF sod is produced and available throughout the United States.
