Caterpillar plans temporary one-week shutdowns
Peoria, Ill.-based Caterpillar announced plans last week for three temporary, one-week shutdowns at its large engine center, Lafayette, Ind., plant this summer in hopes of better aligning production with demand.
The 1.5 million square foot Lafayette plant is Cat's main production facility for its larger bore 3500 and 3600 series diesels and natural gas engines. The shutdowns in June, July and August will affect about 1,100 production workers. The dates of the shutdowns have not yet been determined.
