Caterpillar Sues Disney Over 'Jungle' Film

Peoria, Ill.-based Caterpillar last week filed suit against the Walt Disney Co. and Buena Vista Entertainment to block the release of “George of the Jungle 2,” claiming the film will damage the company’s reputation.

The lawsuit, filed on the grounds of trademark infringement, alleges that the movie connects Caterpillar to an “evil attacking army” in a scene that depicts a fleet of the company’s wheel loaders, calling them “bulldozing bullies” in a battle with George and his group of animated animal friends.

The Caterpillar name and logo are featured prominently in the film. The company contends the scenes will impact children negatively and jeopardize sale of its line of children’s products.

The lawsuit asks a judge to issue a temporary restraining order to block release of the film Tuesday, and seeks an order that Disney destroy the offending material.

The film has already been released outside the U.S. No court data has been set.
