Consumer Confidence Dips
The Consumer Confidence Index fell
nearly eight points in April, after rebounding somewhat in March. The Index now
stands at 109.2 (1985=100), down from 116.9 in March.
Economists fear that growing
pessimism about the economy will make consumers more cautious in their
spending. This could create a self-fulfilling prophecy, as consumer spending is
key to driving the economy.
