Cushman Plant closes
After celebrating its centennial anniversary of building equipment in Lincoln, Neb., last summer, the remaining 415 people working at Cushman were notifed on Thursday that the plant will close later this year.
The plant manufactures Cushman-branded utility vehicles as well as turf aeration equipment under the Ryan brandname. The plant was inherited by Textron Golf, Turf & Specialty Products five years ago when that parent company purchased Ransomes.
Workers at the Cushman plant had already experienced some layoffs, as Textron cut approximately 85 jobs during the past eight months. While Textron will phase the plant out by the end of the year, it will move production of the Cushman and Ryan equipment to Augusta, Ga., and Charlotte, N.C.
