GCSAA And Toro Announce 6th Annual Toro Championship Tournament Training Program
The Toro Company and Golf Course Superintendents Association of America (GCSAA) recently announced the sixth annual Toro Championship Tournament Training Program for GCSAA student and assistant superintendent members. The program will provide four winners with the opportunity to prepare a golf course for tournament play.
As part of this year’s program, two GCSAA assistant superintendent members and one student member will attend the 2004 PGA Championship at Whistling Straits in Kohler, Wis. in August. In addition, one assistant superintendent will be selected to attend the Ryder Cup at Oakland Hills Country Club in Bloomfield Hills, Mich. in September 2004. Each winner will be assigned to one of these major events to help the staff prepare the golf course. Toro will provide all travel and accommodation expenses for the week.
Since the start of the program, 18 GCSAA members have been chosen to participate in a PGA Championship or U.S. Open. Applications for the program are available at www.gcsaa.org. A 500-word typed essay will also be part of the program selection process. All applications and essays must be submitted to GCSAA, postmarked no later than May 1, 2004. An independent panel of judges will select finalists based upon the essays submitted, and the site superintendents will select the winners. The Toro Company will notify winners in June 2004.
