Home Depot Launches Landscape Supply Stores in Texas

The Home Depot, the world’s largest home improvement retailer, announced that Texas will be the first expansion state for its new Home Depot Landscape Supply stores.

The company said it plans to open several of the new concept stores in the state this year, beginning in Arlington on Feb. 13. Additional locations opening later this spring will be in Plano, Grapevine, Lewisville and Dallas.

“The vitality and sophistication of the Dallas-Fort Worth market is what first brought Home Depot to Texas in 1984,”said Todd Williams, president, Home Depot Landscape Supply. “It would be hard to find a better place to showcase our new landscaping business. Texans take great pride in their homes and their property. We can offer them the next generation in landscaping products, supplies and service.”

Home Depot Landscape Supply locations are designed to extend the reach of Home Depot’s popular garden departments, focusing on the professional landscapers and avid do-it-yourself garden enthusiasts. The Arlington store brings to four the number of Home Depot Landscape Supply stores open to date. The first three were piloted in Atlanta last summer. Each store has approximately 30 associates.

“Home Depot listens to its customers,” said Williams. “These stores are our response to demands from professional landscapers and avid do-it-yourselfers, alike. We want to take Home Depot’s lawn/garden offerings to a higher level to reach a new set of customers, who have told us they would like to see Home Depot develop an even more sophisticated lawn/garden offering.”

The layouts of the stores are virtually identical. Each one stocks a wide selection of products ranging from live goods to chemicals and tools to landscaping materials. Each has a heated/cooled space of about 12,000 square feet, complete with a tool rental department, in front of a covered greenhouse. Each site also features a 5-7 acre fenced-in, "Pro-Yard."

The stores are set up with separate entrances for the professional landscaper and the do-it-yourself enthusiast. The pro-side of the store features job-lot quantities with bulk items stacked nearby. The other side of the store resembles a greenhouse, complete with exotic plants and flowers.

“We will have certified nursery experts at every store, along with a full line of top-quality live goods, including trees, shrubs and plants,” said Williams. “Tool rental centers and complete irrigation systems will also be available at each store.”
