Landscape Distribution Inaugural Tour is successful
More than 75 American Nursery & Landscape Association members attended the inaugural Landscape Distribution Tour, Sept. 12-15 in Atlanta. LDG President Greg Georgaklis from Gold Star Wholesale Nursery, Lexington, Mass., said, “The board and I were thrilled at the level of participation at our first tour. The number of people and the representation of the sector of the industry far exceeded our expectations.”
Tour stops included a variety of distribution firms from strictly wholesale yards to those centers that also retail. Industry tour stops included ANLA members: Southeastern Wholesale Nursery, Shemin Nurseries, Select Trees/Tree Introductions, Pike Family Nurseries, John Deere Landscapes and Arthur A. “Buck” Jones & Associates.
Part of the learning experience included a stop at a distribution center outside of the green industry. Although they do not give tours, tour participants saw Hershey’s new Southeastern Distribution Center in Kennesaw, Ga., where they were treated to a tour of the 404,513-square-foot facility filled with candy and chocolates.
Landscape distribution has seen a boom in the past few years, as evidenced in Home Depot’s creation of three prototype Landscape Supply stores in the Atlanta area. LDG tour participants got to witness first hand the newly opened store in Duluth, Ga., where the district regional manager was on hand to explain the new operation and answer selected questions.
