Maycock Named Cebeco International Seeds’ ‘Man of the Year’
Cebeco International Seeds honored Bob “Cameron” Maycock as its “Man of the Year” during the Golf Course Superintendents Association of America Conference and Show (GCSAA) in Atlanta.
Maycock is the former owner of The Cameron Company in Palm Springs, the first supplier of professional turf products to golf course superintendents and landscapers in the area. He served as a Merchant Marine during WW II (Normandy) and Korean War (Okinawa). Upon his discharge from the service, Maycock was employed as a manufacturer’s representative for Certified Labs (subsidiary of National Chemical Search, Inc.) while also starting up Bob’s Turf Supply in 1977. Maycock was the salesman, delivery person, warehouseman, bookkeeper, janitor and manager. Shortly thereafter he changed the company name to Cameron Chemical Company. Many years later, Maycock changed the name one last time to The Cameron Company, to which it remained until he sold the company in 1997 to Eco Soil Systems DBA Turf Partners Inc. (now Simplot Partners).
In 1993 Maycock bought a nursery to compliment The Cameron Company. The nursery, called Cameron Nursery, is still owned by him today. Maycock’s most astonishing business achievement may be that he has sold more improved perennial ryegrass seed to golf course superintendents than any man or woman on earth.
