NaturaLawn of America Contracted by American Horticultural Society
NaturaLawn of America announces it will now be providing its organic-based program to the lawn and grounds at George Washington’s River Farm, headquarters for the American Horticultural Society in Alexandria, Va.
NaturaLawn of America is working with the American Horticulture Society to repair and restore the turf that has been damaged over the years at the headquarters using organic-based fertilizers and spot treating weeds as needed, as opposed to the traditional chemical blanket spraying.
NaturaLawn of America will use its Natural Alternative program on the Children’s Gardens. This is a scaled-down garden area designed to stimulate a child’s interest in gardening. The program is 100% pesticide free.
“Children are always playing on the grass and using their creativity with the alphabet letters that are placed within the gardens. We want to make sure they not exposed to any dangerous chemicals and pesticides used by traditional lawn care companies,” explains Rick Schwartz, branch manager of NaturaLawn of America, located in Northern Virginia. “We will spot-treat weeds as needed on an additional 6 acres we are caring for, still remaining flexible and having an option of remaining 95% pesticide free in those areas and 100% pesticide free in the children’s areas.” NaturaLawn of America uses an IPM (Integrated Pest Management) approach to control weeds and insects.
The American Horticulture Society was founded in 1922, as an educational non-profit organization that recognizes and promotes excellence in American Horticulture. It is currently located on George Washington’s River Farm, a 25-acre farm that George Washington purchased showcasing many beautiful flower gardens and wildlife, as well as a spectacular view of the Potomac River.
NaturaLawn of America was founded in 1987 and is currently headquartered in Frederick, Md.
