NYSTA elects 2002 officers and directors
The New York State Turfgrass Association (NYSTA) 2002 officers and directors were elected at the association's annual meeting held November 14, 2001, during the 26th Annual Turf and Grounds Exposition.
John Rizza, CGCS, was elected president. Mr. Rizza is employed by E/T Equipment Company as a sales representative. He serves on multiple committees for the association, and has been instrumental in developing the equipment managers program.
Steve Griffen, co-owner of Saratoga Sod Farm, Inc. was elected vice-president. Mr. Griffen represents NYSTA on the Council of Agricultural Organizations and Cornell’s Department of Floriculture and Ornamental Horticulture Advisory Board.
James Hornung, owner of Elbers Landscaping Service, Inc. and head groundskeeper at Dunn Tire Park in Buffalo was elected secretary/treasurer. Mr. Hornung has been instrumental in developing the Western Regional Conference and was the recipient of the 2000 Bayer Unity Award.
Joseph M. Hahn, CGCS, assumes the position of past president. Mr. Hahn is the golf course superintendent at the Country Club of Rochester.
Reelected for 2002 were Finger Lakes Region director, Steve Hyde, The Andersons, Inc., Seneca Falls, N.Y; and Central Region director, David Hicks, CGCS, Robert Trent Jones Golf Course – Cornell; elected as Long Island Region director, was Richard McGuinnes, Woodmere Club, Woodmere, NY. Current directors serving NYSTA include: Northeast Region director, Ken DeCerce, Town of Halfmoon Supervisor, Halfmoon, NY; At Large director, Michael Maffei, CGCS, Back O’Beyond, Inc., Brewster, NY; Metropolitan Region director, James Diermeier, CGM, Reader’s Digest Association, Pleasantville, NY; At Large director, Greg Chorvas, Cantine Veterans Sports Complex, Saugerties, NY; Western Region director, Cindy Halm, Broccolo Tree & Lawn Care, Inc., Rochester, NY; At Large director Owen Regan AT Sales Associates, LTD., Lincoln, RI.
