PGMS Announces Election of New Leaders
Todd Cochran, CGM, assistant county park superintendent of Bergen County Department of Parks, Hackensack, N.J., was elected and installed as the new volunteer president of the Professional Grounds Management Society (PGMS) during the Society's annual business meeting held in conjunction with the Green Industry Exposition in St. Louis, Mo.
The 82nd grounds management professional to hold the office, Cochran succeeds Milton "Dusty" Hallman, CGM, of the Sylvan Abbey Memorial Park in Clearwater, Fla., as the chief elected officer of the 92-year-old green industry organization.
In addition to Cochran, PGMS members elected Chris Fay of the University of North Carolina at Greensboro as their president-elect.
Ellen Newell, CGM, landscape manager at Utah State University, was elected vice president and Michael Mongon, CGM, of Fairview Country Club in Greenwich, Conn. was elected as treasurer.
Complimenting the officers of the society, PGMS is led by a team of volunteers who serve on its board of directors. Elected to the board this year were South Central Regional Director Monica Higgins, CGM, of Shadow Glen Golf Club in Linwood, Kan., and North West Regional Director John Van Etten, CGM, of Hoffman Development Corp. in Albany, N.Y. Due to recent redistricting of the society's regions, Van Etten of New York will serve one three-year term. Also elected to the board as director-at-large is Andy Nicholson of Nigro & Boyd Landscape in Kansas City, Mo.
Continuing to serve on the PGMS Board are Director-at-Large Greg Nichols of Twin Oaks Landscaping in Fairfax, Va.; Director-at-Large Vicki Killian, CGM, horticulturist for The Patterson Club in Fairfield, Conn.; North East Regional Director Mike Loftus of the University of Delaware, Newark, Del.; North Central Regional Director Gene Pouly, CGM, E.F. Pouly Co., Orrville, Ohio; South East Regional Director Joseph Jackson, CGM, assistant director of facilities management at Duke University, Durham, N.C.; and South West Regional Director Donald Bottger, CGM, San Diego Convention Center in San Diego, Calif.
Thomas C. Shaner, a Certified Association Executive, serves the Board as PGMS Executive Director.
PGMS leadership is already at work planning the 2004 Professional Grounds Management School and Green Industry Exposition, which will take place in Charlotte, N.C., November 3-7, 2004.
