Pursell Farms officially opensOn July 28, David Pursell, CEO of Pursell Technologies, presided over the official Grand Opening of Pursell Farms, the 3000-acre site which is now home to PTI's corporate headquarters, demonstration sites, research stations, a new guest lodge and more. At the same time, a ceremonial groundbreaking was held to initiate construction of FarmLinks, a championship 18-hole research and demonstration golf course that will be the focal point of this new complex. The golfing areas will also include a prototype learning facility for kids called The First Tee at Pursell Farms.
Located just outside Sylacauga, Alabama, Pursell Farms has been long in the planning. The beautiful site, nestled among thick hardwood forests and abounding with native wildlife, is designed to be much more than a great retreat.
Pursell explained that PTI will use the new facilities to enhance the company's research and education efforts. “The entire Pursell Farms complex will be a workinG outdoor laboratory for our continuing research and education programs,” he said. “We plan to showcase our products, train customers and provide educational opportunities for students.”
Pursell Farms includes environmental observation stations around the property for monitoring and gathering data, as well as for teaching environmental stewardship. “School groups will be encouraged to visit our wetlands and other environmental observation points,” Pursell said.
PTI plans to sponsor university student internships at Pursell Farms as well, for young men and women majoring in Horticulture, Environmental Science, Turfgrass Management and related curricula. “We've made arrangements for housing student interns,” Pursell added, “so we can train future green industry leaders.”
