RISE Urges Users To Submit ESA Comments On Web Site
RISE (Responsible Industry for a Sound Environment) urges pesticide users and other interested parties to submit positive comments to the Endangered Species Counterpart Regulation before March 30, 2004. Comments may be quickly and easily submitted online at www.pestfacts.org/esa.html.
The quick, online submission will support a proposal to protect endangered species while minimizing impacts to pesticide users for both specialty and agricultural uses. The proposal entitled “Counterpart Regulations” will help the EPA fully comply with regulations of the ESA.
The Counterpart Regulations will establish a clear regulatory framework for compliance with ESA consultation requirements. RISE members and their customers represent user groups who will be directly and adversely impacted if these regulations are not adopted.
The ability to register, sell and use well proven and effective pesticide products has been greatly impacted by activist lawsuits based on EPA’s acknowledged failure to fully comply with the Endangered Species Act (ESA).
“While the proposed Counterpart Regulations may not address all the issues of concern to us, they are a step in the right direction. Without action, activist ESA lawsuits will continue to proliferate, leading to more restrictions on what products may be available in certain areas, who can use them and how they can be used,” explains Allen James, RISE president.
Those wishing to comment can go to www.pestfacts.org/esa.html and simply fill in their contact information. A test letter can be emailed to the letter writer prior to an official one being sent to the ESA rulemaking docket.
