Stihl’s Green Helps Student Career Days Bloom
Stihl Inc. has returned as the platinum sponsor of the Associated Landscape Contractors of America's (ALCA) 27th annual Student Career Days, repeating as the first and only industry sponsor at that level. This year's event was held at Hinds Community College in March.
More than 800 landscape, design and horticulture students participated in what many consider as the premier event in the "green industry" for undergraduate recruitment. Career Days is a chance for students to compete among their peers and exhibit their skills in front of some 300 industry representatives, who are on hand to observe and meet with potential employees.
"Stihl Inc. is pleased to return as Platinum Sponsor of this important event," said John G. Keeler, national training manager. "Student Career Days is a creative and tangible way for our company to help grow and develop tomorrow's leaders of the Green Industry."
In 2002, Stihl became the first Platinum level ($30,000) sponsor in the history of Student Career Days; previously, Stihl was the event's first and only Gold ($25,000) sponsor. Major sponsorships help underwrite the costs of producing the Student Career Days program which is produced by ALCA, an industry trade association.
"We are delighted to have STIHL on board this year as a Platinum Sponsor of ALCA's Student Career Days," stated Debra Holder, ALCA's Executive Vice President. "STIHL has shown by generously becoming our first Platinum Sponsor that the company is truly dedicated to education and the future of the Green Industry."
This three-day competition attracts hundreds of students enrolled in Interior/ Exterior, Horticulture/Landscape Contracting programs from community and junior colleges and four-year universities across the country. It is the largest gathering of potential landscape employees entering the job market and an important recruiting opportunity for many landscape companies and allied industry businesses.
Stihl Inc. is also one of 11 founding members of the ALCA Educational Foundation (AEF). As an AEF founding ambassador, the company also endows an annual scholarship that is presented to a worthy student at Student Career Days.
