Summertime, and the yard chores are easy

Homeowners will have it easier than ever in the yard this summer, thanks to a wide variety of outdoor power equipment. According to the Outdoor Power Equipment Institute (OPEI), products are now available to accomplish almost any imaginable yard or garden chore. And today's technologically advanced equipment is 70 percent cleaner than products manufactured in 1990, and will soon be even cleaner. Also, these products are more fuel-efficient and more durable. By using these improved products, consumers also will receive the added value of:

* The pride of a well-manicured lawn that can also increase the real estate value of their home;

* Getting yard work done quickly and efficiently leaving more time for other activities; and

* Good exercise that helps reduce stress.

Lawn mowers, tillers, edgers, trimmers and chain saws are a few of consumers' favorite products that will help them maintain and beautify yards and gardens all across the country this summer.

Bill Harley, OPEI president and CEO, says, "Today's consumers are fortunate to have the advantage of these great products that are clean, comfortable and user-friendly." OPEI also strongly recommends brushing up on safety procedures before starting up any equipment. "Consumers should read their owners' manuals and learn those important safety steps," he adds. "Practicing safe use of outdoor power equipment is the best way to prevent needless accidents."
