Turf Employee Named Certified Turf Specialist

Dan Klindt, turf specialist for River City Turf and Ornamental, based in Walcott, Iowa, has recently completed a comprehensive testing program and has been named a “Certified Turf Specialist” by the Agronomy Division of GROWMARK, Inc., a regional agricultural cooperative based in Bloomington, Ill.

According to Dana Robinson, River City Turf general manager, only the best trained and most knowledgeable FS turf salespeople from FS cooperatives in Illinois, Iowa, and Wisconsin qualify for this recognition.

To qualify for testing to be a Certified Turf Specialist, an employee must have a minimum of two year’s selling experience. Potential candidates then must be nominated by their cooperative and the GROWMARK Agronomy Division retail turf specialist. Nominees must have demonstrated technical knowledge and sales professionalism to receive nomination for testing.

To receive certification, a turf specialist must successfully complete written examinations that cover technical knowledge; understanding the sales interview process; the ability to discover, identify, and analyze various turf problems and situations; and give a verbal sales presentation. All parts of the examination deal with the latest in turf herbicides, fertilizers, and turf seeds.

The testing procedure is designed to be difficult enough that only the best salespeople have the skills to successfully complete the testing process.
