Waddington Receives ASTM Award of Merit

ASTM International announces that a 2003 Award of Merit and the accompanying title of Fellow, the highest Society recognition for individual contributions to standards activities, was conferred on Donald V. Waddington, Ph.D., professor emeritus of soil science at the Pennsylvania State University, University Park campus. The award was given to Waddington for his outstanding leadership and technical contributions in Committee F08 on Sports Equipment and Facilities, and particularly his pioneering efforts in subcommittee F08.64 on Natural Playing Surfaces.

Waddington has been an important contributor to a number of standards, including three on natural playing surfaces.

Waddington received his B.S. in agronomy in 1953 from Penn State in University Park, Pa., his M.S. in soils from Rutgers University in 1960, and his Ph. D. in agronomy from the University of Massachusetts in 1964.
