What's in a name?
On March 28, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) released a draft Pesticide Regulation (PR) notice relating to false and misleading brand names. According to the EPA, some existing product brand names conflict with current agency regulations on false and misleading claims. These products include, but are not limited to, those with brand names including the words "safe," "safer," "safest," "natural," "healthy," "non-toxic," and "environmentally safe."
The draft notice would require registrants with inappropriate brand names to take corrective action by October 1, 2003. Corrective action may include changing or deleting delete words, phrases, company names, or trademarks in the product brand name, or adding appropriate qualifiers or disclaimers. Comments are due by May 28, but the EPA extend the comment period.
