Illinois Bill Requires Contractors to Register
Irrigation contractors in Illinois will be subject to new education and insurance requirements under a bill approved by the state legislature. The bill requires irrigation contractors to pass an approved irrigation design and installation class to register to do business in Illinois. Irrigation contracting companies will be required to prove that at least one employee has passed an approved course. The bill also requires proof of insurance coverage and an indemnification bond or irrevocable letter of credit that would allow the health department to collect damages due a consumer because of improper design or installation. If signed by the governor, the bill would go into effect in 2008.
