New Salt Lake City Intermodal Hub Installs Baseline Technology
Baseline LLC, a manufacturer of soil moisture sensor-based controllers for commercial and residential landscape applications, was chosen as the irrigation system for the Intermodal Hub project of Salt Lake City, Utah.
The Salt Lake Intermodal Hub is a project that will change transportation in Utah as a whole. By bringing bus, train and light-rail transportation together, this project will connect many forms of public transportation stopping in or passing through Salt Lake City. With support from the local legislators and government, this hub will allow Utah to prepare for current and growing transportation needs.
“Baseline technology best meets the special needs of this site. The system will ensure that the site not be over-watered, a critical environmental issue as the Intermodal Hub is being constructed on a brownfield site,” explains Stephanie Duer, water conservation coordinator for Salt Lake Department of Public Utilities. “We are also striving for LEED certification on this project, and so the enhanced water saving features of the Baseline system will help us to achieve that certification.”
Achieving the LEED certification for the Intermodal Hub adds significance in addition to the value of the creation of a centralized public transportation center, in that it represents the best in planning, construction, and operation of a building designed for sustainability. All aspects of the project, from materials selection to the landscape, are designed around preserving the environment and natural resources of Utah well into the future.
