New England Grows 2005 Attendance Record Set At New Convention Center

About 13,910 people attended the 13th annual New England Grows conference held February 1 - 3, 2005 at the new Boston Convention & Exhibition Center in Boston. This figure represents a 17 percent increase over the previous year’s total and sets a new attendance record for the event.

The New England Grows exposition featured 710 exhibiting firms in 1400 booth spaces. The exhibit hall, which covered 415,000 square feet, was filled with the latest plant material, products, equipment and services for green industry professionals.

The educational sessions were well attended and featured industry luminaries who provided over 25 hours of top-notch training. Three interactive learning centers – Arbor, Garden and Fieldstone Parks – were a new addition to the exposition floor. Each park focused on a specific industry discipline and offered skill-focused activities like stonewall building, tree climbing, and shrub pruning demonstrations during the event.

“Overall, we received rave reviews for the ‘new’ New England Grows,” said president Greg Georgaklis of Gold Star Wholesale Nurseries in Lexington, Mass. “The new convention center, expanded exposition, and enhanced educational opportunities combined to mark a milestone in this event’s history and our stakeholders are very pleased with the results,” he added. “As with any change, there were a few wrinkles that need to be ironed out and that’s what we’ll be focusing on as we prepare for 2006,” he concluded.

In keeping with its mission of industry support, New England Grows presented $30,000 in grant awards to the six New England state cooperative extension systems. To date, the New England Grows endowment fund has contributed more than $300,000 to support services that directly impact the green industry through the region’s extension systems.

New England Grows’ partners are the New England Nursery Association, Associated Landscape Contractors of Massachusetts, Massachusetts Arborists Association, Massachusetts Nursery & Landscape Association, and its network includes more than 30 allied green industry organizations.
