NYSTA Celebrates 29th Annual Turf And Grounds Exposition

The New York State Turfgrass Association, (NYSTA), in partnership with the New York Golf Course Owners Association, (NYGCOA), and Cornell University, will hold its 29th annual Turf and Grounds Exposition on November 16-18, 2004, at the Rochester Riverside Convention Center in Rochester, N.Y.

This year’s theme for the Turf and Grounds Exposition will be, “Economics and the Environment: Surveying the Landscape.” Bernadette Castro, commissioner of the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation and Steve Ropel, statistician with the New York State Agricultural Statistics Service will give the keynote presentations. Commissioner Castro will discuss the importance of the parks system in New York State communities and Ropel will present the results of the New York Turfgrass Survey including the amount of turfgrass acreage in New York and the economic value of turf, turf production, services, and expenditures.

Early bird registration is now available. Educational opportunities for green industry professionals will be offered, including New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYSDEC) recertification credits, which may be earned by attending many of the diverse turf and landscape sessions. Topics include all aspects of turfgrass management, research/regulatory/DEC updates, tree care, equipment updates and facility design, aquatic weed control and more.

NYGCOA, a first-time Turf and Grounds Exposition partner, will offer programs specific to the needs of golf course owners. Golf course owners will be offered programs relating to efficient business operations, client services and play development.

The trade show, featuring 315 exhibitor booths, is expected to draw over 1,700 attendees. Attendees will have numerous opportunities to network at a variety of meetings and events scheduled throughout the three-day conference. Planned activities include an awards ceremony, a silent auction, prizes for the best exhibitor booths and a turf bowl student competition designed to test their knowledge of turfgrass.
