October Workshop Plants Seed of Turf Grass Research
A Turf Grass Workshop sponsored by RISE (Responsible Industry for a Sound Environment) and the Agrochemicals Division of the American Chemical Society is planned for October 12 and 13 at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Crystal City, Va.
This workshop will offer turf grass researchers from universities as well as industry researchers the opportunity to share their most recent studies with the turf grass industry and regulatory officials.
The workshop begins with a reception on Wednesday evening, October 12 featuring a program on the "Public Perception of Turf Grass" presented by RISE President Allen James. The program for the following day includes presentations by many of today’s top turf grass researchers.
Those presenting include:
Zachary Easton, Doctoral Candidate, Cornell University, "Landscape Impact on Suburban Runoff: Determining Nutrient Loading Rates Based on Land Use"
Kevin W. Frank, Ph.D., Michigan State University, "Nitrogen Fate in a Mature Kentucky Bluegrass Turfgrass"
Gregory E. Bell, Ph.D., Oklahoma State University, "Mowing and Cultural Management Practices That Reduce Runoff"
Kevin W. King, Ph.D., USDA-ARS, "Nitrate and Phosphate Transport from a Golf Course Watershed"
Wayne R. Kussow, Ph.D., University of Wisconsin, Madison "Nitrogen and Phosphorous Losses from an Upper Midwest Lawn"
Kurt Steinke, Doctoral Candidate, University of Wisconsin, Madison, "Prairie and Turf Buffer Strips for Controlling Urban Runoff"
Douglas Soldat, Doctoral Candidate, Cornell University, "Nitrogen and Phosphorous Fertilization Effects on Phosphorous Runoff Losses from Turfgrass"
John Cisar, Ph.D., University of Florida, "An Overview of Nutrient Leaching from Two Contrasting Landscapes Over a Four Year Period"
David W. Roberts, CPAG, Dow AgroSciences, "Mobility of Clopyralid Herbicide in Turfgrass Field Lysimeters"
Steve Starret, Ph.D., Kansas State University, "Glyphosate Runoff When Applied to Zoysiagrass Under Golf Course Fairway Conditions"
Kevin L. Armbrust, Ph.D., Mississippi State University, "Georgia Homeowners Turfgrass. EPA Star Grant Findings"
Mark Carroll, Ph.D., University of Maryland, "A Review of Turfgrass Pesticide Environmental Fate"
Douglas Haith, Ph.D., Cornell University, "Regional Analyses of Pesticide Runoff from Turf"
James A. Reinert, Ph.D., Texas A&M University, "Evaluation of Resource-Efficient Landscape Plants to Reduce Contaminants in Urban Runoff"
The research presented will be a culmination of several years of studies by these leading turf scientists. Registrations can be made online at www.pestfacts.org/turfconf_05/index.html.
