Pennsylvania Turfgrass Council Announces Golf Turf Conference
The Pennsylvania Turfgrass Council (PTC) and The Pennsylvania State University will host the Penn State Golf Turf Conference Tuesday, Nov. 9, through Thursday, Nov. 11, at the Nittany Lion Inn, State College.
In addition to educational speakers, the conference offers the opportunity for pesticide credit updates and a job fair, which offers networking opportunities for students and firms in the golf industry.
A special feature of the conference will be recognition of the 75th anniversary of Penn State’s Turfgrass Program. A special presentation on the history of the turfgrass education and research program at Penn State will be presented at 9 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 10, and a reception celebrating the program will be held that evening. The focus of both events will be to honor the impact Penn State has had on the golf industry around the world, as well as the development and management of turf on athletic fields, commercial and residential lawns and bring attention to other ways in which the science of turfgrass management has had an impact.
Organizers are developing a photo display and a collection of golf balls from clubs where Penn State alumni now serve. More information on how to participate can be found at www.paturf.org.
The conference begins with an afternoon session at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 9, and concludes at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 11.
Speakers will include outstanding presenters from within the turfgrass industry as well as research reports from Penn State highlighting the newest developments and trends.
Sponsored by the Penn State Turf Club, the job fair takes place on Tuesday, from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., also at the Nittany Lion Inn. Firms are encouraged to reserve tables to showcase their employment opportunities.
A Turf Club Luncheon on Wednesday, Nov. 10 offers another opportunity for turfgrass professionals to meet with faculty, staff and students from Penn State.
