Rain Bird Announces Winners Of Xerigation Design And Installation Contests
With five-day, all-expense-paid trips to see the 116th 2005 Rose Parade and 91st Rose Bowl Game, Rain Birdís Landscape Drip Division recently recognized Randall Boudrero and Craig Widmier of MHTN Architects, Inc. as the winners of Rain Birdís 2005 Xerigation Design contest and contractors Sid and Salle Morse of BIO Landscape & Maintenance, Inc. as the winners of Rain Birdís 2005 Xerigation Installation contest.
Kicked off in 2004, the nationwide contests focus on promoting efficient design and installation principles through the use and specification of low-volume irrigation equipment. Entries from across the country were submitted for overall installation of Rain Bird Landscape Dripline and for the site design incorporating the best use of Rain Bird low-volume irrigation products.
Citing innovative design and superior water savings, Rain Birdís Drip Division awarded Boudrero and Widmier of MHTN Architects, Inc. with the 2005 Xerigation Design award for their design and construction of the landscaped Davis Campus of Weber State University (WSU) in Layton, Utah. MHTN Architects, Inc. used Rain Bird Landscape Dripline to irrigate all the shrubs and groundcover plantings, which constitute 25 percent of the WSU Ė Davis landscape design. In doing so, Boudrero and Widmier estimated they saved over 765,000 gallons of water in one month alone. This was a 48 percent savings over the campusí traditional landscape water use.
Contractors Sid and Salle Morse of BIO Landscape & Maintenance, Inc. were chosen as the inaugural Xerigation Installation winners.
Each winner was awarded a five-day, all-expense paid trip to Pasadena, Calif. to take part in Rose Bowl festivities with their families. During the five days, winners were invited to visit Disneyís California Adventure Park, party at a New Yearís Eve gala dinner dance, watch the Rose Parade from grandstand seats and attend the exciting Rose Bowl college football game. Winners were also invited to help decorate Rain Birdís float, which was ultimately awarded its sixth Rose Parade Sweepstakes Trophy for most beautiful float, as well as view the floats prior to the Rose Parade and attend the float judging. Entries for the 2006 Xerigation Design and Installation contests will be accepted starting March 1, 2005.
