Rocktober is Back with Top Entertainment
Big name entertainment is on the lineup for this year’s International Lawn, Garden & Power Equipment Expo (EXPO 2006), Oct. 6-8 at Louisville’s Kentucky Exposition Center. Set for Friday, October 6 at 5:00 p.m., Rocktober, will feature The Marshall Tucker Band. This free event is sponsored by Briggs & Stratton.
For more than 30 years, these good ol’ boys from Spartanburg, S.C., have entertained fans with their Southern rock music, playing everything from country to blues and all things in between. With hit singles like “Heard It In a Love Song,” “Fire On The Mountain,” “Can’t You See” and “Take The Highway,” The Marshall Tucker Band earned seven gold and three platinum albums. During the ‘90s, the group scored four hit singles on Billboard’s country chart and one on Billboard’s gospel chart. “As we’ve become older,” says founding member Doug Gray, “our Southern heritage seems to come out even more. But no matter how old we get, we can still rock your socks off.”
Making this a truly unique industry event, The Briggs Bluesbusters will open the concert. This Briggs & Stratton house band has 11 members (eight are company employees), including John Shiely, chairman, president and CEO, as rhythm guitarist. The Bluesbusters have opened for top bands including The Beach Boys, Ray Charles, Blood, Sweat & Tears and James Brown. They have also competed in Fortune Magazine’s Corporate Battle of the Bands at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. The band plays covers by soul and blues-based rock artists as well as the company anthem, “Briggs & Stratton Man.”
In addition to live music, attendees will enjoy hearty appetizers, drinks and an opportunity to network with other industry members in a relaxed setting.
Show manager Warren Sellers is enthusiastic about Briggs & Stratton’s sponsorship of this event. “The Briggs Bluesbusters put on a great show last year, and with The Marshall Tucker Band on this year’s lineup, Rocktober is expected to add a lot of energy to the show.”
Bill Harley, president and CEO of the Outdoor Power Equipment Institute, Inc., sponsors of EXPO, said, “We’re pleased to have Briggs & Stratton as a concert sponsor again. Exhibitor support of this kind is essential for taking EXPO to the level of international success.”
