Stihl Inc. Awards $5,000 to Colorado State University in National Landscape Competition
STIHL Inc. returned to the 29th annual PLANET Student Career Days, March 19-22, as the exclusive platinum sponsor, donating $40,000 in awards and sponsorships. Colorado State University, winning by a mere 8.5 points, took home the championship title and a $5,000 check from STIHL Inc. to cover their expenses for next year’s competition at Brigham Young University, Provo, Utah.
About 850 students representing 56 different colleges spent their spring break week battling in competitive landscaping competitions to vie for the elusive title. Events ranged from arboriculture techniques to wood construction, landscape and irrigation design, and sales and marketing tests.
“The competition brings the best of the best in the student landscape industry,” said John Keeler, national training manager for STIHL Inc. “We are proud to sponsor such a promising event for the future leaders of our landscaping industry.”
PLANET Student Career Days not only offers a competitive spirit, but also prepares students for careers in the growing landscape industry.
“I feel better prepared for the future after having been given the opportunity to speak with so many different industry professionals” said Matthew Cousins, $1,000 STIHL Inc. scholarship winner. “I would like to say thanks to STIHL for supporting Student Career Days. The gratitude I show is most definitely echoed by every student who attended the event.”
