STIHL Brings Ironjack Timber Team to EXPO 2006
Visitors at the 2006 International Lawn, Garden and Power Equipment Expo will be entertained by the STIHL Ironjack Timber Team’s lumberjack sports show as part of a 32-week tour that showcases the athletes’ dexterity, speed and brute strength. EXPO 2006, sponsored by the Outdoor Power Equipment Institute (OPEI), is set for Oct. 6-8, in Louisville, Ky.
A combination of the modern athlete and the extraordinary skill and courage of the American Lumberjack, the Ironjack competition melds together the various disciplines from all lumberjack sports. Referred to as the “Olympics of the Forest,” Ironjack shows feature exciting events in lumberjack sports performed by highly skilled athletes.
The group will perform multiple shows each day in EXPO’s outdoor demonstration area. Competitions will include springboard chop, single buck, underhand chop, obstacle pole chokerman’s race, axe throw, stock saw, speed climbing and log rolling. To become the champion an athlete must be skilled in all aspects of lumberjacking. If an athlete fails in one he can regain in another, but the one who is best across the board will be the Ironjack Champion.
For Expo attendees brave enough, there will be an audience pole climbing challenge between shows. The person who sets the best time of the day will earn a STIHL prize.
As an added attraction, STIHL spokes model Erin LaVoie, an ESPN Great Outdoor Games medalist and Ironjill athlete, will be on hand to sign autographs.
