STMA Elects Mike Trigg, CSFM As President
Mike Trigg, CSFM, (Certified Sports Field Manager) superintendent of parks, Waukegan Park District, Waukegan, Ill., officially took office as the 15th President of the Sports Turf Managers Association (STMA) on Jan. 20, 2005. The ceremonial passing of the gavel from previous president Bob Campbell, CSFM, University of Tennessee, took place during the association’s annual meeting in Phoenix, Ariz., held during the STMA 16th Annual Conference and Exhibition. Jan. 19-23. Trigg was previously STMA’s president-elect for two years, secretary for one year, and board representative for the Parks and Recreation Sports Turf Facility Managers’ category for two years. He also served on numerous STMA committees including chairing the Conference Committee in 2003 and 2004.
Trigg has been with the Waukegan Park District since 1986, and is a Certified Parks and Recreation Professional through the Illinois Parks and Recreation Association. He holds a bachelor of science degree in urban forestry from Michigan Technological University and is a graduate of the Parks and Recreation Maintenance Management School, which is conducted by North Carolina State University and co-sponsored by that National Recreation and Parks Association (NRPA).
As president, Trigg will lead the association for two years and will focus on advancing the association and the profession. “I want to continue the drive for increased professionalism, and I am committed to continuing the tradition of sharing information to promote the advancement of the sports turf management profession,” says Trigg. He plans to reestablish a strong committee system and expand membership by providing more value to current and new members. He also believes in strategic planning. “It is important that we refocus the Board’s responsibility to be the visionary body of the association, thinking strategically about issues facing the industry and membership, and providing direction and leadership for the association,” Trigg states.
