Thank you for serving as judge for the Grounds Maintenance Innovative Product Award. This competition honors excellence in new product development in the golf and green industries. This prestigious award showcases the most innovative products introduced after January 1, 2003, and recognizes the talent and commitment of the people involved in every aspect of development, from concept through sales. Grounds Maintenance is proud to bestow the Innovative Product Award, which will be selected by Grounds Maintenance subscribers, on inventive products that ensure professional grounds managers are able to do their jobs more efficiently and effectively. This category focuses on Cultivators (aerators, verticutters, groomers).
Classen introduces the SA-25 Stand-Aer, the first ever “tine-driven, stand-on” aerator. This unit eliminates the walking as well as steers without having to raise and lower the tines, which means improved production. With a 24-inch operational turning radius, this hydrostatically driven aerator offers an operational and transport speed up to 4.7 miles per hour. That translates into 50, 000 plus square feet per hour. The tines hydraulically raise and lower up to a three-inch depth with a hole pattern of 4.06 x 7 inches. Powered by a 13.0 hp Honda OHV engine the Stand-Aer fits through a thirty-six inch gate.
The Toro Company
The Toro ProCore 648 aerator positions the wheels within the coring path of the machine which eliminates both running over the freshly aerated turf and extra cleanup work. Complete aeration of 18 average size greens in about 7 hours with the 48-inch aeration swath. Aerate to a depth of 4 inches to relieve compaction, improve root growth and enhance overall turf health. Variable hole spacing and a wide variety of tines allow customization to specific aeration requirements. The ProCore 648 also features a TrueCore system, the industry’s first automatic ground following system that compensates for ground undulations maintaining consistent coring depth.
TurnAer 26 Chariot
Turfco Direct has once again revolutionized turf aeration with the introduction of the TurnAer 26 Chariot system. Designed to increase productivity and reduce operator fatigue, especially on large areas of grass, the new Chariot pull-behind sulky allows increased aeration speeds. With its innovative Diff-drive™, and fingertip braking that allows turning with the tines in the ground, the TurnAer 26 operates much like a mid-size mower. The Chariot leverages this heightened maneuverability to introduce an entirely new level of productivity to aeration. Because it’s easier and less fatiguing to use than traditional aerators, all-day aeration is no longer the sole domain of the fittest crew members. In addition, the Chariot can be separated from the TurnAer 26, allowing it to function as a walk-behind to enhance maneuverability in tighter spaces.
