Power Boost Tornado, Echo Incorporated, Lake Zurich, Ill.

Echo redefined the outdoor power equipment industry with its 2003 introduction of its two-stroke Power Boost Tornado™ engine. Echo achieved what other companies have yet to do: produce a conventional lightweight, powerful two-stroke engine technology designed to meet future emissions standards. Providing improved engine performance and higher fuel efficiency, Power Boost Tornado technology met EPA and CARB emissions standards through 2005.

Benefits of the Power Boost Tornado engine include:

  • Three Moving Parts—Simply stated: fewer parts mean fewer opportunities for failure and less maintenance.
  • Improved Lubrication—Better lubrication to the crankshaft, piston and connecting rod, means longer engine life.
  • No Inventory Changeover or Service Team Re-training—The majority of Power Boost Tornado engine components are compatible with older Echo engine models.

This latest evolution to the technology further increases the efficiency of fuel usage as compared to traditional two-stroke engine designs. By improving the engine air/fuel mixture, Echo engineers have developed a method of maintaining the high power-to-weight ratio inherent to the two-stroke engine, while significantly decreasing the amount of partially burned fuel and raw fuel emissions.

Echo has been in business 31 years and employs 750 people at the Lake Zurich location. Echo’s parent company Kloritz Corporation was responsible for the product development.
